This disease is known as PCOD (polycystic ovarian  disease) some people predict it as PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome).
You might imagine that these terms are same, but they hold a difference which I will tell you in this blog. So lets begin

What is PCOD?

What is PCOD and its treatment ?

PCOD (Polycystic ovarian disorder)
it is a disease which affects the majority of women around the world.
It occurs due to disturbance in female reproductive hormones.
In some instances there is overproduction of male hormone known as androgens occur.
Surveys have shown that PCOD is hereditary, but it is also caused by a  variety of environmental factors such as

  • Type of food you eat
  • Amount of nutrients
  • Stress
  • Insulin diet
  • Hormonal imbalance

Is PCOS and PCOD same

PCOS:

It is a disorder which affects our endocrine system.
In easy language in PCOS our ovaries produce large amount of androgen. This androgen causes interference with the egg development.
Some accumulated eggs leads to the formation of cysts.

Cysts are fluid filled sacs it can be filled with blood also known as a hemorrhagic cyst or a non hemorrhagic cyst.
Hemorrhagic cyst is more dangerous as it can lead to suppuration and internal bleeding.

PCOD

It is a condition which occurs due to hormonal imbalance.
Due to the hormonal imbalance egg accumulates in ovaries.
They form cysts and if left untreated, it can even cause multiple cyst in ovaries.

PCOS is more severe than PCOD

How does PCOD makes you feel?

  • Irregular menstrual periods
  • It mainly causes oligomenorrhea (less than 9 menstrual periods in one year)
  • Amenorrhea (no menstrual periods for 3 or more successive months.)
  • Increased hair growth on face, chest, stomach and back
  • Oily skin
  • Excess hair fall
  • Sudden weight gain
  • If left untreated, it can cause infertility

The conclusion of PCOD and its treatment:

It is not necessary that every individual who is suffering from PCOD will carry cyst in their ovaries and vice versa.
If you want to affirm whether you have PCOD or not, then go for CBC and ultrasound.

With proper medication, diet change and a skillful and correct exercises you can say goodbye to PCOD.
