CEREBRAL PALSY

Do you know ,about 1 in 323 children has been identified with cerebral palsy 

  • It is very important for every individual to know about cerebral palsy as children are the future and the backbone of our nation.


So here i m, to tell you about cerebral palsy  

what is cerebral palsy(CP) ?


  • Cerebral palsy is a common disease of childhood 
  • It affects motor development of child 
  • this disorder affects person ability to move, to maintain their posture and balance 
  • it is more common in boys 
  • mostly children have spastic cerebral palsy - this means there muscles are stiff due to which they have awkward walking pattern
  • mostly cp is relate to brain damage which occur before or at the time of birth and this is called congenital cp


Early diagnosis of cerebral palsy


  • BABY 3-6 MONTHS OF AGE



  • feels stiff 
  • feels floppy 
  • overextended back and neck 
  • when picked up legs gets stiff



  • BABY OLDER THAN 6 MONTHS OF AGE 




  • doesn't roll over 
  • unable to bring hands together 
  • one of the hand remains fisted


  • BABY MORE THEN 10 MONTHS OF AGE



  • scoots around buttocks 
  • does not crawl on all fours 


  • CEREBRAL PALSY OF ADULTS 
  • SYMPTOMS 



  • muscle weakness
  • stiff muscles
  • paralysis
  • involuntary movements of hand arms and legs
  • difficulty in swallowing 
  • loss of muscle tone


CAUSE OF CEREBRAL PALSY 


These are grouped under 3 headings 

1 prenatal cause 


  • maternal viral infection 
  • metabolic disorders in mother such as diabetes ,heat ailments ,hyperthyroidism 
  • poor prenatal care
  • abdominal injury 


2 perinatal cause 


  • Trauma to the head during labour, big head babies 
  •  • Uterine haemorrhage 
  •  • Forceps application 
  •  • Poor position of the infant like breech delivery


3 developmental cause 


  • macrocephaly -overly large head
  • microcephaly - small head


Exercises 



  • joint exercises -will increase flexibility

  • muscle exercise - it helps to get rid of muscle tightness


  • stretching exercises- improves body movement 


  • balancing exercises- improves balance 


  • wrist and knee exercises -improves flexibility


  • swimming exercise-improves body movement disorder 


  • coordination exercises- it improves coordination , balance and posture
