What is diabetes?
- Diabetes is a disease in which there is a problem with the hormone insulin
 - Insulin is produced by an organ known as pancreas it is situated behind the stomach

- Insulin helps the body to store sugar from the things which we eat
 - Diabetes occurs when the pancreas produces very less or no insulin
 - Diabetes also takes place when our body is unable to utilize the insulin

To remain fit and healthy you have two choices
- Stay fit and eat healthily
 - Depend on medicines

- 1 Type 1 diabetes
 - 2 Type 2 diabetes

Type 1 diabetes
- It is also called insulin-dependent diabetes
 - It is an autoimmune disorder, in this; your immune system attacks your pancreas and damages the organ because of which the pancreas is not able to make insulin.

- Cause of type 1 diabetes is unclear
 - It is thought to be caused by genetic variations or environmental factors

- Diabetic retinopathy - in this diabetes type 1 causes damage to the small blood vessels of the eye
 - Diabetic neuropathy - in these nerves are damaged by diabetes
 - People suffering from this type are prone to stroke and heart diseases

- It is called non-insulin dependent diabetes
 - In this type of diabetes fat, liver, and muscle cells become resistant to insulin and to overcome it pancreas is unable to make enough insulin
 - Due to this reason, sugar starts accumulating in the bloodstream
 - If you are overweight then chances of developing type 2 diabetes increases
 - The best way to keep it under control is exercise, eat healthily and maintain your BMI

- Tiredness and hunger - you will feel tired because your body will not be able to use sugar, sugar gives you instant energy
 - More urination - average man urinates 4 to 7 times in 24 hrs. But the diabetic person pees more than that, this happens because your kidney is not able to work efficiently
 - Dry mouth and itchy skin -due to frequent urination your body loses moisture and fluid due to which you will suffer from dry mouth and itchy skin
 - Blurred vision - your eye lens swells up due to which you will be unable to see things clearly this happens because of the disturbance in body fluids

- Sudden weight loss - this happens because your body starts using muscle and fat for energy
 - Nausea and vomiting

 - Excess ketones in your body cause ketoacidosis

 - Pain and numbness in feet - nerve damage causes this, nerve damage occurs because of raised sugar level
 - Dark signs - dark signs occur at armpits groin or neck
 - All the above symptoms happen at the time of hyperglycemia (increased sugar level)
